If they haven’t sucked you in yet…
Stick with someone you trust to help you stay away from gangs
Sometimes it might not feel like it, but there are a lot of people who are on your side, and want to help you stay out of gangs. It’s easier to do when you stick with people who want you to be safe.
If you’re okay talking to your parents, do it. Even if they don’t know exactly what to do, they can help you take the next step.
But sometimes your parents can’t or won’t help, so try:
- a good friend
- a longtime family friend
- a teacher, principal or counselor
- a police officer
- an elder
- a spiritual leader
Be a really good friend
If you’re worried that one of your friends is being pulled into a gang, talk to one of the people listed above. It isn’t ratting out or wrong to tell someone that a friend might be getting into a gang… it’s called being a good friend.
